Professional Profile
Curated Wine Journeys, followed by Vineyard & Olive Grove-Based Educational Practice

During a BeWine Journey in Sauternes, France, I secured special permission fo
r the group to take part in the harvest — a rare opportunity made possible through close collaboration with local growers.
I am Ruth Bruchel, a certified sommelier (FISAR, Italy) and a wine, olive oil, and agricultural education professional with over two decades of international experience. My work operates at the intersection of wine culture, education, and place-based practice, combining professional expertise with long-term, hands-on engagement in vineyards, wineries, and educational frameworks.
Areas of Professional Practice
My professional work spans several interconnected fields:
-
Wine and olive oil education
-
Viticulture and winemaking practice
-
Cultural wine tourism and professional encounters
-
Development of educational programs in agriculture and food culture
-
Long-term collaboration with wineries, growers, and local partners
Across all fields, my focus remains consistent: depth, integrity, and respect for the land, the craft, and the people involved.
Professional Philosophy
My work is grounded in the principles of Slow Wine, Slow Food, and Slow Tourism, as developed in Italy. I approach wine and agricultural culture as living systems shaped by terroir, time, human knowledge, and ethical practice.
I believe in learning through encounter: with the vineyard, with the producer, with raw materials, and with process. Professional knowledge, in my view, grows through rhythm, repetition, and presence rather than acceleration or consumption.
International Experience & Collaboration
Over the years, I have worked extensively across Europe, including Italy, France, Cyprus, Greece, Portugal, and additional wine regions. My work involves close collaboration with wineries, growers, educators, chefs, and cultural institutions.
I work fluently in Hebrew, English, Italian, and French, allowing direct, respectful communication with international partners and diverse professional audiences.

Education, Training & Program Development

A central pillar of my professional work is education. I founded and led the Carmel Winery Visitors Center as a hub for wine culture and learning, initiated boutique regional wine festivals, and developed a Ministry of Education–approved viticulture and winemaking program taught over multiple years.
My educational practice integrates vineyard work, winery processes, sensory training, and cultural context, creating learning environments rooted in responsibility, craftsmanship, and long-term thinking.

As a Portuguese citizen based in Porto, I maintain an ongoing presence in Portugal, enabling sustained collaboration with local partners, educational institutions, and agricultural initiatives across the region.
Continuing Practice
My work continues to evolve through teaching, professional collaboration, and the development of practice-based frameworks connecting wine, olive oil, land, and education.
Professional Presence in Portugal
The educational framework and its implementation are presented in detail in the Vineyard & Olive Grove Practice section.

Preparatory journey in Portugal — exploring Porto and the Douro Valley in order to design a future BeWine Journey.
Preparatory Journeys
Every BeWine Journey begins long before participants arrive.
I travel to each region at least once — often more — to walk the vineyards, meet producers, taste extensively, and understand the land, the people, and the rhythm of the place.
These preparatory journeys allow me to select only the most meaningful wineries, olive oil producers, culinary partners, and landscapes, and to shape each BeWine Journey with precision, depth, and respect for local culture.
This work is the result of many years of experience, shaped by deep respect for the vine and the olive tree, and by an equally deep commitment to people — their stories, their hands, and the connections created along the way.
